A best friend's request to save a life....

I have known Kanwar for many years, can not even remember how many. Being very caring and loving, he was adored and loved by everybody among friends and family. His caring and loving nature came from his family who made sure that he gets the best education and values of life. For a successful life and bright future, they spent all their savings on his bringing and education. Kanwar fulfilled his parents’ wishes and expectations and excelled in his studies and with his hard work and persistence became a mechanical engineer. Thinking everything was going the way he expected from his life, he got married to Jagroop in Jan 2007. I remember all us friends going to his wedding and having so much fun. Kanwar had so many things planned for his future. His parents and family were very happy and excited for him, seeing him move in to the next aspect of the life. But god had something else planned for him.

Only few months after his wedding he was diagnosed with AML (Blood cancer), a shock which shattered not only Kanwar’s dreams but numbed and baffled his wife and parents who kept asking themselves, why Kanwar? What could have they done to save their child from this dreadful disease, question which haunts them day and night. I can not even imagine what’s going through Jagroop’s mind. When I came to know about this, I thought somebody is playing a cruel joke on us. May be we did not want to accept that anything so cruel could happen to person like Kanwar who was so caring and loving to his friend and family, “A true friend, a loving son and a great husband”

Kanwar’s parents did not want to leave any options to save their son from this dreadful disease. They consulted the best doctors in India and spent all their leftover savings only to realize that he can only be treated in USA at an estimated cost of about $500,000. Amount so huge and out of reach.

It is very heartbreaking to see and talk to his wife and parents; for them everyday is a challenge. A challenge which leaves them exhausted physically and mentally. I don’t think his mom has left any religious place where she has not gone to pray for his son, hoping almighty will answer her prayers. It is unbearable for her to see her young son suffering from this terrible disease. Kanwar’s dad can not even express his emotions; he is like a pillar of strength, keeping his family together in these trying times, trying every venue to collect the funds needed for his son’s treatment.

My heart breaks thinking about them all; I can not even say I feel their pain, only they know what they are going through. For me it is so hard to see my friend who was always there for me, go through this. He does not deserve this. I want to help and I am urging you to help save his life. You won’t be saving one life; you will be saving his parents and wife’s life too whose only hope is that there are good people in this world who will help them save their son. Please donate whatever you can. Please pray for him. To make a donation please visit:

How we started

While i was visiting India last winter, I went to Amritsar to meet Kanwar (whom we all friends call bhullar). The same guy I met a year before on his wedding. Never ever i imagined that i will see him in this situation. I was excited about seeing him, only to find out that i cannot. And the reason, chemotherapieshis, his body defence has become so weak that even a cough or sneeze can be fatal for him. Only his wife sees him every day for his day to day care. Even his parents don't see him that often. His room needs to sanitation few times a day to prevent anything that can attack his body.

He was sitting in the next room from where we (me, our other friends and Kanwar's mom) were sitting. A friend with whom i spent a majority of my time during my undergrad was just a few steps from me. It was hard not to see him. All i could see was a closed door and a fact that he is just right there. His mom was sad, at that time they were facing two daunting tasks. One was to find a bone marrow donor (which now that have found) and the second was to arrange $500,000 for this treatment in USA (which is still a challenge)

We all promised that we will help them financially as much as we can. We saw a little satisfied mom, who now knew that we will help them. After having a cup of tea and updates on this health we left. But we did not leave promises behind, we knew we have to raise $500,000 for him. The amount seemed huge, but if you think even if 5000 people donate $100 each, we will easily achieve our target... we are trying every single day.. raising awareness and urging everyone to donate.. everything anything matters.. please do your part and make a donation... we really need your help.
